[00:00:00] Do you experience a fear of missing out every time your phone buzzes? Is missing out fear related to mental well being and the use of digital technology and is this fear stable or temporary? What triggers this fear? Netherland researchers reviewed 106 articles on this missing out fear and its links to mental health and technology use. These studies measured both positive like self esteem and negative like depression. Measures of well being. Tech use covered general and problematic use of devices, Internet and social media. Results fear of Ms. Working out is strongly linked to lower psychological well being including more depression and anxiety and higher use of digital technology, especially social media and smartphones. This fear may connect poor mental health and tech use, but most studies can't prove which causes the problem. The research on this shows the need for clearer theory and consistent measures. So what can help for those who often feel this fear? Try setting time limits like use social media 1/2 hour after solid productive work. Focus on being present when make real life connections with family and friends to boost your mood. Stepping away from the screen could be your first step toward feeling less fear.
