They reviewed 20 studies with over 2,500 participants from the US and Australia. Researchers studied podcast based programs on mindfulness, coping skills, stress management, mental health education and reducing stigma. Most studies measured anxiety, depression, dress, body image and attitudes towards mental illness using self report surveys.

Podcasts often reduced stress, increased self compassion and improved body image. Educational podcasts also helped improve coping skills and reduced negative attitudes towards mental illness. However, results vary across studies and many participants stopped listening before the programs finished. This study matters because podcasts are low cost, easy to access and flexible. People can listen while driving, walking or doing chores. That convenience may help mental support reach people who might not otherwise seek help. Why listen in? Podcasts are not meant to replace therapy but can be helpful mental health tools. Listening to supportive and evidence based content over time may help people feel more informed, connected and emotionally resilient.
